Operation Encompass at Thameside School
At Thameside School, we are committed to safeguarding and supporting all our pupils. As part of this commitment, we participate in Operation Encompass, a national initiative that ensures children who have been affected by domestic abuse receive timely and appropriate support.
What is Operation Encompass?
Operation Encompass is a partnership between local police forces and schools. When the police attend an incident of domestic abuse where children are present, they notify the school's designated safeguarding lead (DSL) before the start of the next school day. This allows the school to provide immediate support to the child, ensuring they feel safe and understood in their school environment.
How Does It Work?

Immediate Notification: If a child is involved in a domestic abuse incident, the police inform our DSL before 9:00 AM the following school day.

Confidential Support: The information shared is treated with the utmost confidentiality and is used solely to support the child's well-being.

Tailored Response: Our staff are trained to offer appropriate support, whether overt or discreet, based on the child's needs and preferences.
Why Is It Important?
Children who witness or experience domestic abuse are at risk of various emotional and psychological challenges. By participating in Operation Encompass, we can:
