LUNCHTIME SUPPORT ASSISTANT

Permanent position starting as soon as possible

 Grade RG2 SCP3 £12.45 per hour (£4,740 per annum)

 8.75 hours per week Mon to Fri, term time only. Hours of work per day 11.45am -1.30pm.

Thameside is an inclusive and welcoming school, situated near the Thames river in Caversham.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Lunchtime Support Assistant to join our lunchtime team to support children during the lunchtime break. This will include supporting children in the dining hall, encouraging children to eat their food, tidying and clearing down the hall, and supervising children while promoting good behaviour and safe play in the playground. You will need to be able to deal with challenging children in a fair and consistent manner and address any concerns with poor behaviour.

You will join an experienced team of other Lunchtime Support staff in providing a fun and safe lunchtime experience.

You will be required to work 1 hour 45 minutes (11.45 – 1.30pm) Monday to Friday, term time and attend occasional monthly Team Meetings or training.

Play Workers for Wraparound Care Service

Breakfast & After School Club (Aftercare)

Hours: Between 5- 18.75 hours per week, term time only

Salary Scale RG2 Actual salary £2,709 - £10,318 per annum (dependant on actual contracted hours)

Start date: February/March 2025

School term time hours: *Required hours* Monday - Friday

Breakfast club from 7.50am – 8:50am

After school club from 3.15pm - 6.00pm

Job Description

We are looking for passionate and creative play assistants to join our school run Wraparound Care Service. As a member of the wraparound team, you will gain valuable experience assisting the delivering a wide range of engaging and participative childcare activities; working with children from ages 4 - 12. Our Play Assistants are passionate, enthusiastic and thrive in a highly rewarding role that facilitates children’s development throughout their time in our Breakfast and After School.

This is a demanding but very rewarding role suited to someone with an interest in supporting children and should ideally have some relevant experience of working alongside children. You should be self-motivated, have good communication skills and be able to engage with children positively.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Plan and deliver safe activities with the children either as a group or on a 1:1 basis
  • Engage with children encouraging them to participate in activities to promote learning and social development
  • Support children on a 1:1 basis who have complex needs
  • Encourage fair and caring behaviour among the children
  • Encourage independence and self-esteem
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are adhered to
  • Assist with food preparation for serving breakfast and afterschool snacks
  • Complete various training courses including Food Hygiene and Child Safeguarding.
